Rolex Milgauss
By the early 1950s, Rolex had cemented their reputation for developing robust, precision timepieces for professionals working in the most challenging environments. So it wasn’t long until they developed a watch designed to meet the needs of the scientific community.
The challenge was to create a Rolex that could withstand incredible magnetic fields while maintaining its legendary Swiss accuracy. They developed a shield of ferromagnetic alloys, capable of withstanding magnetic fields of up to 1,000 gauss. So in 1953, after vigorous testing by the engineers at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN), the Milgauss – from the French mille-gauss – was launched
